Donation to King Neptune!

The Volt party fishing trip who booked with Adventure Watersport Charters in Key West for their overnight liveaboard deep sea fishing charter started with some great excitement and ended with fish boxes full, six happy guys and a rather expensive donation to King Neptune.
Jim P started the catch off with a Dolphin Fish measuring 48”, and weighing 18 lbs, thereby sending him skyrocketing to first place for the large keeper fish on the trip.  Immediately after putting back into the water from the first Dolphin catch, he nailed another; this one was a bit smaller but still a keeper nonetheless.  Jumping into action next was Jimmy Lee when he landed a good sized Cero Mackerel.  The heat was on with the competition running when Philip got his turn hooking into his first ever Black Fin Tuna; and the “firsts” didn’t stop there as the fish was filleted on the spot, the Wasabi and Soy Sauce broken out for some fresh first time ever sushi for Philip.  Following the mid-day snack of sushi, Nick was up next hitting one right after the other in the grouper family; first a Black, then a Red, and immediately followed by a Strawberry….way to hook those great tasting Groupers in Nick!   The fight was on when John got into the competition with a large catch and release Barracuda that gave him quite the run for his money, but a good fight back by John.    The Red Grouper game swimming back around when Jim P reeled in a fairly good sized keeper.    The excitement from the day went into relaxed mode a bit when everyone on the boat watched the sunset that evening and all witnessed the infamous “green flash” when the tip of the sun disappeared over the horizon….so much for the unbelievers on this “myth”….seeing IS believing as the saying goes.  The second day proved to be a bit slower with the winds kicking up when Phil turned it right on striking a Black Grouper, followed by a second, and again by a third….all right in a row and all good sized keepers.    Jim P came back strong following when he reeled in a Black Grouper, a couple of Trigger Fish and an Atlantic Spade Fish.  Phil answered back with a couple of large flag Yellowtail Snappers and Jim P jumping on board with a large Mutton Snapper.  Steve got into the game with the catch of the usual Mangrove and Yellowtail Snappers as well as the usual array of Porgies and Grunts, as did everyone else.  John proved to be the “shark magnet” on this trip hauling in close to 20 catch and releases of nurse sharks, and would have won the largest fish contest, however unfortunately for John sharks don’t count in the competition, but it was some awesome fighting with John coming out as the winner!  In the end when all was said and done King Neptune turned out to be the biggest winner when an anonymous angler in their party accidentally donated his expensive fishing pole to the King of the seas, (ooooohhhhh, ouch…. that one really must have hurt).

All and all everyone had a great time and the catch turned out to be not only quite the variety but filled two fish boxes as well….not bad for a 3 day trip.  They feed Captain Budd and Captain Jack in training like royalty, who truly appreciate all their hard work in not only keeping them safe and helping with the lines, but putting them onto so many fish throughout the trip.  Our many thanks to the anglers from the Volt party in choosing Adventure Watersport Charters for their overnight liveaboard deep sea fishing trip in Key West….your weekend date is already reserved for next year guys….see you then.

Guys and Dolls

The guys and dolls trip was on with the Moore family fishing adventure when their talented daughter Kerri booked their overnight liveaboard trip with Adventure Watersport Charters in Key West.
Suzie started the game off with a big bang when she hooked into a 21” Black Grouper & then followed it up with a good sized keep of a Red Grouper, (great job to show the guys that the dolls can fish too)!  Kevin was next following his wife when he reeled in a Cero Mackerel and then popped a Red Grouper as well.  Wayne wasn’t out of the game when he pulled in his catch of a Black Grouper too.  Triggerfish were on the run as Wayne, Bob and Kevin hit the school all about the same time with each bringing one aboard; Kevin netting the largest at around 7 lbs.  Belinda didn’t let her husband Wayne show her up when she pulled up a Dolphin Fish just at the same time Kevin reeled one in as well.  The fun didn’t stop for Belinda there; as shortly after she hooked into 22” Red Grouper that gave her quite a fight, and of course….she won!  Gerri was next up to the plate with her prize catch of a peanut Dolphin Fish, and husband Bob, got the largest fish prize with his 4 ft Barracuda catch and release.  The group got their share of bothersome nurse sharks, bringing in 3 nurse sharks to the boat that were about 200 lbs each; of course then released to go bother the next boat that came along.

The dinners were awesome with fresh fish and grilled steaks as the dolls got a couple of nights off of cooking duty, with Captain Budd and Captain in training Jack taking that task on for them which was most welcomed.  This family’s trip was not about slamming the fish and overflowing the fish box, but more about time well spent together in a relaxing atmosphere, having fun and making memories to last a lifetime.   Our thanks to the Moore family for choosing Adventure Watersport Charters for their Key West overnight liveaboard fishing charter; we surely hope to have you all back next year.

Killer Trip!

The Cage party really ripped it out on their overnight Key West fishing trip with Adventure Watersport Charters recently.  The jokes and laughs were flying with all the boys before the boat even left the dock.
Tyrone made the very first catch within minutes of the first troll with a 22# Bull Dolphin fish…way to start the trip off right!  Things heated up quickly  as Fred hooked into a ripping 22# Black Grouper and made the competition even hotter when he fought hard and long to reel in the 135# Goliath Grouper; (too bad it was the middle of night with no camera men awake),  wining both the largest fish contest and the largest keeper with the Black.  Tee wasn’t out of the competition entirely as he hooked into a good sized Kingfish, several Strawberry Groupers and a large Red Grouper.  Thing s didn’t stop there when the game got really interesting and intense when both Fred and Tee got hooked by the same 15# Black Grouper taking both of their hooks and bait with it….the jury is still out on who’s fish that one was!  CJ reeled in several Mangrove, and Yellowtail Snappers as well as a fairly good sized Strawberry Grouper.  Alex joined in as well with his catch of many Yellowtails and the largest Mutton Snapper at 10#’s.  Bert then followed suite with his Barracuda, Kingfish and Horse Eyed Jack bounty.   The heat was on when Tyrone got back into the run with his bottom fishing catch of a large Kingfish.  The smaller keeper Yellowtail s, Porgies and Grunts where in abundance this trip as well with all of the guys finally ending up filling the 2 entire fish coolers and ½ of one of their very large ice chest coolers.

All in the entire trip was as much as a success in fishing as it was in fun!  Everyone was thrilled with the variety and amount of fish Captain Budd was able to put them on, as other boats in the fleet in the area weren’t able to even come close.  GREAT job Captain Budd!  Thanks guys for choosing Adventure Watersport Charters in Key West to take your 3 day, 2 night overnight fishing charter with, and we’ll see you next year!

Shark Magnet

Thanks for a great time with the “old time traveling fishing friends crew” (Steve, Bill, Mike Gene, Gerry, and Howard), who hauled their catch in with Adventure Watersport Charters in Key West for their overnight liveaboard fishing charter.
Things started a bit slow with the rock’in and roll’in of the ocean for the first day or so, but eventually calmer water and winds prevailed when the Grunts and Porgies starting being hauled in; however that was not what these fishing friends were looking for, so most were released and thrown back.  Gene seemed to be the shark magnet on this trip as he pulled in several nurse sharks in the 250-300# range….too bad that they didn’t count in the first place category for largest catch. (Must be that constant hummmmmm of the generator that they are so well tuned into).   That trophy (in a baseball cap form) went to Mike the tournament fisherman when he reeled in a whopping 24# Black Grouper.  Meanwhile Gerry, Steve Bill and Howard found themselves smack dap in the middle of a big school of teenage Dolphin fish slamming them hard one after the other and even a Bull Dolphin fish was brought aboard.  The usual array of Yellowtail, Red and Mutton Snappers were hooked as well.  Even the Red Grouper could not evade these fishermen with the largest being in the 12# range.

Though the fish box was not entirely full, as that was not all this party was after, these traveling fishermen and friends all had a wonderful time reuniting together  and fishing with Captain Budd, and Captain in training, Jack aboard the Emily Anne with Adventure Watersport Charters in Key West; the fishing capital of the world!  Hope to see you back again soon ….until then may calmer seas and winds prevail in your fishing adventures.

It’s a FISH…it’s a EEL…it’s a SHARK…ahhh…no…it’s…………..

Thanks to the Douglas family and friends, who chose to take their 3 day overnight liveaboard Key West fishing charter trip with Adventure Watersport Charters.  What a great time was had with quite a surprise on the end of one of the lines during the course of the trip!
David began the trip with hooking into and reeling in a Blackfin Tuna on the lightest gear while trolling, believe it or not that doesn’t happen very often on a troll with that kind of gear…way to start things off!  That wasn’t all that was in surprise for David on this trip, as he hooked and landed a good sized Dolphin fish and “another” kind of fish.  This “other” fish was so big and everyone was so excited and watching and waiting patiently for David to get it to the surface, only for all of them to be quite shocked that what he had spent 15 + minutes reeling  in a 5 gallon plastic bucket full of debris…needless to say the laughter went on for quite some time throughout the trip over that one!  Lex and the rest of the crew slammed into several  large Yellowtail flags; so many so that Ira was actually releasing the smaller one that were considered keepers.  Why keep the little ones when you can have the big ones…right?  While the moon was about to enter it’s full stage the Mutton Snapper were biting quite well in the medium to large sized category.  However the biggest fish that was kept of the trip was a 22# Black Grouper, of course that doesn’t count the 2 Nurse Sharks that fought like mad at about 300# a piece that were caught and released.   The Groupers were out in multitudes with many Red and Strawberry Groupers as well as a 10# Gag Grouper were hauled in as well.  All of the guys were hitting the Dolphin fish so fast and furious that it was hard to keep up with the lines at one point in time with over 40 of these fine specimen caught.  The excitement didn’t stop there as Jeff rescued his father David from just about falling overboard….but as David said, “Yeah, but I never let go of the pole”.

Though the nick names for the crew were flying around with several laughs as Captain Budd graciously received the nick name of Captain Ron for the trip and our Captain in training Jack, held the dubious honor of being referred to as Shrek….(don’t ask), the fish coolers were full upon docking.  Even as the slap talk was flying a bit, the meals that were prepared by Captain “Ron” were awesome even without considering the food that was brought was enough to feed half an army, most of what was consumed was the fish caught on board.  Thanks guys it was truly a great time and honor to be with a family that was so committed to each other and to having a wonderful time.  We hope you will choose Adventure Watersport Charters here in Key West for your next overnight liveaboard fishing charter adventure next year again.

A Whale of a Catch!

Thanks to the Hall family and friends (Chad, John, Dick, Zack, Jamie & Bill) for choosing Adventure Watersport Charters for their overnight liveaboard fishing trip to Key West, the Marquesas Keys and the Dry Tortugas.  As the family and friends united from all points east of Reno, NV and north as far as South Carolina, not only was it an awesome reunion, it was a great fishing adventure for all!
Chad (the recent graduate), started the trip off right fish thing when he slammed a Skip Jack Tuna…way to start the competition off!  It wasn’t long before John followed when he hauled in a couple of good sized Dolphin Fish….great catch John!  However it wasn’t long before Chad came back for his round two with a Black Fin Tuna with Dick following close behind when he reeled in a large Cero Mackerel.  Once again Chad returned the competition with a 30# Black Grouper that gave him quite a fight and run for his money, but official first place in the largest catch category, if it wouldn’t have been for John who fought hard to bring in an 80# Goliath Grouper (which of course had to be released), first place would have gone to him….sorry John…we don’t write the rules…only have to obey them.  The competitive field opened up when Zack hauled in a Flag Yellowtail Snapper.  Jamie wasn’t out of the game either, however he got the prize for the most exotic catch with his catch of several eels.  Several Red Grouper s were caught by all, with Mutton and Yellowtail Snapper helping to fill the box, as well the regular array of Grunts and Porgies.  The last day Bill got into the game too with a fairly good sized Red Grouper and the troll back proved to be very  fruitful as everyone was hitting the Dolphin Fish so hard that our Captain in training, Jack could barely keep up to getting the fish off of everyone’s lines.   One more line drop proved to be just as exciting as it was a triple hit on 3 Skip Jack Tunas all at once….couldn’t have orchestrated this one if you had tried!  The highlight of the trip turned out to be quite the scare the first night when a Pilot Whale swam up alongside the boat and blew….scared everyone have to death as it was first time any of the guys had seen or heard this sound before…boy was that ever loud, but graceful and beautiful!

The trip wasn’t of course complete without some of Captain Budd’s great chef skills with fish dinners and great breakfasts too, which all the guys very much loved and appreciated, as well as putting everyone “on” the fish….thanks for being much more than a “push button Captain” Budd….you’re the best!  Unfortunately time grew short and the trip came to an end, but not without a lot of laughs, jokes, and memories that were had and made by all.  Though Bill will be 80 years old next month, he and the gang are already talking about planning their next off shore deep sea fishing trip down to Key West with Adventure Watersport Charters liveaboard overnight charters.

Variety Is the Spice of Life….or Fishing!

Our many thanks to the Bacon party (Jim, John, Don, Ken, Mike and Bob) for their loyalty in returning for their 7th year of Key West deep sea liveaboard charter boat fishing  with  Adventure Watersport Charters.

The fish box was overflowing with over 100#’s of fish upon their arrival back at dock after their 3 day trip with Captain Budd and the Emily Anne.  The catch brought in a few dolphin fish, several grunts and progies as well as yellowtail and mutton snapper along with a kingfish or two  and many varieties of grouper with the largest being a black grouper weighting in at approximately 25# with the largest fish prize going to Mike for that catch....way to win that prize pool!

Fun was at the top of the list with this crew.    The weather was fabulous with calm winds, sunshine galore and sunsets to be made postcards from.  The meals cooked by Captain Budd were nothing less than delicious and the jokes and slap talk never at a loss.  Thanks guys for a fantastic and memorable trip for both and we’ll see you back again next year with two boats full for your next Key West  overnight liveaboard charter fishing trip adventure.

Look out for flying fish on high seas!

Our many thanks to Capt John and his party, Kathy, Bob, Sam, Gary and Doug chose to take their charter boat fishing trip in Key West with Adventure Watersport Charters for the first time and got a bit more than they bargained for!
Though the seas were rough the first day or so, the troll out provided to be at least worthy of a nice size Barracuda and Bonita.  After anchoring up in the Marquesas Keys for the night some Porgies and Yellowtail Snapper were reeled in as well as several Red and Warsaw Groupers….yeah…grouper season is finally open!  J  Gary hauled in the biggest Grouper of the trip with a 12# red, while Kathy bagged some nice size Grouper and Mutton Snapper as well as a flag Yellowtail after being taught by the Captain how to flat line fish the first time.  Sam brought in his share as well, however with his intense concentration, all of the fish should have been magnetized right off the bottom and jumping into the boat, and that’s exactly what one fish did.  Our Captain in training, Jack was hit in the back of the head with a flying fish that jumped onboard to take a free ride, although Jack could have sworn at first that Doug had given him a head slap.  Laughs were had by all when everyone realized what really happened and the flying fish was returned to his home most likely shocked as well, but unharmed.  The fishing continued with Bob taking the prize for the biggest catch with a 48” Wahoo along with a 26” Dolphin Fish and John came in second with his nice 30” Cero Mackerel.  Doug was on the mark as well with a fairly good sized Dolphin fish on the troll back to port.

Though Kathy brought enough food to feed an entire army with them and fed all the boys well, the fish dinners they had fresh from the seas beat all!  A good time and catch was had by all despite the weather and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly.    Thanks to everyone for choosing Adventure Watersport Charters for your Key West charter boat fishing adventure, and we can’t wait to have you back again next year, with calmer seas ordered up for you in advance already!

Fish overboard…..NO man overboard after fish!

The trip that the Smith family took with Adventure Watersport Charters in Key West for their overnight fishing charter started off with the biggest hit on troll as Matt gabbed the pole and set the hook….nice, however the fish jerked back and took the rod and reel with him, end of that “big fish got away” story. No Fish!   Stan started with a flag yellow tail, then got hooked on logger head turtle and fought for 20 minutes.  He brought it to the boat for pictures to  prove the catch and release.  What a battle that one was for a turtle…geeezzzz!   Jed caught his first fish in his over 20 year sabbatical from fishing, with a good size trigger fish, boy was he ever excited!  Shortly after that tala Stan hooked into a Cero Mackerel and Mike reeled in with a Spanish Mackerel.   A good size king fish found hard against tala Stan who brought 3 quarters of it onto the boat after something bit it hard...sorry Stan.  Jed and Brian got into some Cero Mackerel and Barracuda, followed up by Bryan who was hitting the fish hard one after the other with a good size Dolphin fish then another Kingfish. The biggest Mutton snapper on the trip was reeled in by tala Stan, however as the fish was being netted it broke the line and dropped back in the water, so with a little help from Jack, the new Captain in training, who jumped into the water with a net to retrieve the fish before it become coherent and swam away, the fish was caught….nice retrieval Jack…anything goes to not let the fish get away with this crew!  Many Trigger fish were caught as well along with the regular pile of grunts and yellowtails.  The biggest grouper was caught on Sunday, opening day for grouper season, along with some Mahogany Snapper as well.

This definitely was a family who didn’t have to fill the fish box (although it was all but topped off), but had a heck of a great time together out on the water and created memories to last a lifetime.  Thanks to all, and especially to the guys in the military….from the bottom of all of our hearts….thank you for your service to our country!  God Bless you all!
